Jim Tompkins

February 25, 1957 — July 11, 2022

James Walter Tompkins, of Chandler, Arizona, went to his eternal home on July 11, 2022. Jim was the third son of six children, born February 25th, 1957, in Richardson, Texas, to H. A. and Jeanne Ann (Raymond) Tompkins. The family moved back to Stevens Point Wisconsin in 1963 where Jim attended St. Stephens Catholic school. The family moved frequently, and Jim attended Immaculate Heart of Mary (Grand Rapids, Michigan), Saint Joseph’s Catholic school (Mendham, New Jersey), Saint Joseph’s Catholic school and Pacelli High School (Stevens Point, Wisconsin), and Edina West (Edina, Minnesota). Jim enjoyed playing the bass guitar and sports. He played both football and ran track. In high school, Jim worked at Jerry’s Grocery Store and brought home a Black Labrador Puppy that he named Maximillian in Edina, Minnesota. He loved tinkering on his 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe Hot Rod, 1965 Mustang and his 1970 Chevy Nova SS. Jim’s passion for cars continued throughout his life. Jim moved again with the family to Lakewood, CO and attended Colorado State University. He later worked for an HVAC Company in Lakewood, Colorado and he eventually lived and worked in Grand Lake, Colorado with his brothers. Jim later moved to Chandler, AZ where he lived for over 20 years. He was befriended by neighbors John and Mary Ann Adamski and we are eternally grateful for their friendship and kindness. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, H. A. and Jeanne Ann Tompkins; his grandparents, Humphrey Andrew and Velma Tompkins, and Walter Oscar and Eleanor Marie Raymond. Jim is survived by his brothers John Raymond (Jane) Arcadia, Florida, Thomas Andrew Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Michael Lee (Jackie) Grand Lake, Colorado, and sisters Mary Ann (Tom Hynes) Thornton, Colorado, and Ann Margaret (Brad Smart) Weldona, Colorado, 52 nieces and nephews. James Walter Tompkins will be laid to rest with his mother at St. Mary Magdalene in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Their joint services are on October 4th, Visitation at 12:00 PM in the entrance of the church, Service at 1:00 PM, Lunch to follow, and Burial for both Jeanne Ann Tompkins and James Walter Tompkins at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery, next to their husband and father H. A. Tompkins. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes any memorials to be donated to the Food Bank of the Rockies (foodbankrockies.org), Caring Bridge (caringbridge.org), or any Mental Health Charity of your choice in Jim and Jeanne’s name.
