Obituary of Janet Carol White

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After more than a decade battling her cancer, Janet Carol White (Bartman) passed away on Saturday, April 9th. Janet was preceded in death by her father Harold (Len) Bartman. She will be greatly missed by her beloved husband, David White, her mother Lesley Funk, sister Fran Johnson (Bartman), brother and sister-in law Richard & Vicci Bartman, numerous nieces, nephews, and grandchildren and of course her constant companion, Bear. Janet was born in Seattle in 1956. She attended Joel E Ferris High School in Spokane graduating in 1974. Janet started her higher education at the University of Washington and continued her education at Brooks College where she graduated with her first degree in Fashion. Later in life Janet furthered her education at Phoenix University where she graduated with a second degree in Communications. Janet’s working career began in fashion at Nordstrom's and evolved into communications management roles. Janet was an award winning Marketing Communications Director with over two decades of corporate brand marketing experience. In Spokane she served as Communications Director at the Spokane Association of Realtors. In San Diego Janet lead the creation of an enterprise web site for an international jewelry business. Janet’s passions started with athletics, specializing in Gymnastics and long distance running in High School. Marathon running became a life sport for Janet as did sailing and related water sports. Janet was a master gardener, an intuitive chef in the kitchen and loved photography. Janet had an innate positive energy and spirit that touched and influenced many people throughout her life. Janet’s occasional nickname among family and friends was ‘Jackpot Janet’ as she seemed to win frequently at the slot machine of life. Janet would say the luckiest day of her life was when she reconnected with her college sweetheart dating back to 1975. Janet would say her happiest day was the day she married her Dave on San Diego Bay in 2011. Janet and Dave traveled extensively over the past decade crossing oceans and visiting Islands and continents building new friendships, experiences and memories along the way. One email user name Janet regularly used said it all about Janet’s personality - "isocialjanet". Janet was indeed social and spent many hours on social media in recent years communicating with new friends and old friends scattered around the world. Janet will be missed and remembered by the many people she touched throughout her life. She has moved on to a better place sooner than any of us might wish. But at the same time none of us would wish that she remain with us at the cost of extending the pain and suffering brought on by her cancer. We will all rejoin her, in our own time, soon enough. If you wish to honor Janet’s decade long battle, consider donating to Neuro Endocrine Cancer Research so that some day a cure may be found for others.
