Michael Elton Call

November 16, 1979 — November 23, 2021

Never in our lives have we had to do anything as difficult as write this obituary. It is long overdue. We know… Now, by the grace of God, we offer the following in honor of our son, brother, father, nephew, friend and loved one. Michael Elton Call died on November 23, 2021 at 6:41a.m. at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He just turned 42 years old. Michael was born November 16, 1979 to Jay D. and Maria (Wilhelm) Call, in Honolulu, HI. He attended Garfield Elementary in Spokane, WA, Post Falls Jr. High in Post Falls, ID, Lakeland Jr. High and Lakeland High School in Rathdrum, ID. Michael has many friends from each of these schools to this day, teachers and fellow students alike. These friendships have endured all these years and sum up what it meant to be loved by Mike. Friendship was a deep commitment of love and loyalty. And he was generous with it. He was a gifted straight A student who exceeded in basketball, football, baseball, golf, and every other sport he tried. Playing basketball was his passion tho and he spent every spare moment he had as a kid on the courts at the park on 21st St. in Post Falls. Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan were household names in our home. With three younger brothers, Michael was always looked up to and revered. And together they got into all kinds of mischief. Mom was constantly yelling “Knock it off before someone gets hurt”. And almost always, someone got hurt! But this is the way of boys. And their bond was unbreakable. Michael went to N. Idaho College and ITT Technical Institute. He became a CAD engineer in his 20’s. In 2001 he went to work for Bayshore Systems in Rathdrum. Michael dedicated himself to Bayshore for 20 years, spending his last conscious day on earth there at his desk, “getting it done”. And they no doubt benefited from his uncanny ability to troubleshoot, his extremely high IQ and his wickedly dry sense of humor. In June of 2002 Michael married Laura Felder. They have 2 daughters, Autumn Call (Spokane) and Amber Call (Post Falls). Later, Michael had 3 more children, Joshua Hass (Post Falls), Michael Call Taylor(Rathdrum) and Aubreyella Call Taylor(Rathdrum). Michael is also survived by a grandson, Emmett Call Lee (Post Falls), mother, Maria Welke (Post Falls), dad, David Welke (deceased 4 days after Michael), his brothers Matthew Call (Roosevelt, UT), Rod Beierle (Post Falls, ID), Dan Beierle (Clarkston, WA), Brook Beierle (Clarkston, WA), and girlfriend Jess Taylor (Rathdrum, ID). These children and surviving family were the absolute light of Michael’s life! His body was covered in tattoos memorializing each of them and his heart beat solely for them. Michael is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Michael’s father Jay Call preceded him in death in 1983. The Oakland Raiders were an obsession with Mike. I refer to them as “Oakland Raiders” because Michael agreed the Las Vegas Raiders just didn’t roll off the tongue like Oakland. His mother bought him his first Raiders jacket from Kmart when he was 3. He was hooked for life. Everything and anything with their logo on it had to be his. And it was. His sports memorabilia collection is vast and includes the other sports he loved as well. Beginning when he was just a toddler his mother jokingly told him, whenever putting on a brand-new pair of shoes, “Now don’t get the bottoms dirty” and with that began Michael’s OCD. Sorry Mike. It was supposed to be a JOKE. Then at 12years old, all Michael wanted for Christmas was a pair of Jordan’s. There was no way his mother was going to by Jordans. And THAT gave birth to his obsession with owning every pair of Jordans he could get his hands on and his wallet around for the rest of his adult life. Michael will always be remembered for his generous and compassionate heart. He was as brilliant as he was affectionate and exceeded in everything/anything he took an interest in or prioritized. He was a talented artist, a voracious reader, he could fix your car, your electrical, you’re plumbing and build one heck of a deck. Michael’s tattoos were legendary. Each one significant and meaningful. He had a great sense of humor, sharp wit and his laugh was contagious. Michael was so comfortable being himself that others around him felt comfortable being themselves. His beautiful soul allowed him to grow into a strong, caring man. He is so painfully missed by his family and friends and he will always be with us in our hearts. Memories of him are cherished and the love that he gave to others will forever reflect and ripple through his loved one’s hearts and lives. We ask that you hold your loved ones a little tighter and a lot longer than you normally have. Continued prayers are appreciated too. Please join us as we honor the life of Michael.
