Leonel Owen Carter

Leonel O. "Chip" Carter passed away on Monday December 28th 2020 at Kootenai medical in Coeur d'Alene ,Idaho. Chip leaves behind daughters Kris, Kerry, Karen, and Andrea. Twelve grandchildren Jared, Grace, Sophie, Tyler, Cory, Susan, Hailey, Travis Jr, Branden, Ryan, Adalyn, and Hayden Rose. As well as four Great grandchildren Haisley Grace, Leah, Eirian, and Jade. Chip was born on June 13th 1940 in Munising, Michigan. The 1st born of six children to Wilbur and Florence Carter. As an infant his family moved to Greenville, Maine where he spent most of his childhood. In 1957 at the age of 16 he moved across the country with his mom and dad, brothers Steve and Bruce, and sisters Nancy, Alice, and Judy to Sandpoint, Idaho. He attended his Senior year of highschool at Sandpoint highschool, graduating in 1958. In 1959 he met Torgi Moore and they married in August of that year. Married in Colfax they would settle in Spokane, Wa. Later in 1960 they would welcome their 1st daughter Kristy, their second Kerry 1962, and Karen in 1964 before divorcing in 1971. In 1972 while attending Spokane Community college he met Anita Lashaw. Chip and Anita married December 16th 1972. They would travel for Chip's work with several trips to Montana, and spend time with Kris, Kerry and Karen. In January 1977 they would bring home their daughter Andrea. Shortly after moving to Lewiston, Idaho. They spent 10 years in Lewiston close to his brother Steve and Steve's wife Alta and nephews Tyson and Nick. February 1988 Anita Lashaw Carter passed away leaving Chip and Andrea who then moved to Spokane, Wa. Chip was a journeyman electrician, and a member of the IBEW Local 73 for over 40 years. Chip traveled for work throughout his career, spending time in the Puget Sound area, Montana, Oregon, Alaska even back to Greenville ,Maine in 1982. When he was not working he enjoyed fishing, working on old cars, and dancing to classic country music at the Honky Tonks, this would include singing along. Anyone that knew Chip has heard his stories about his life he loved to tell them. They also knew he would do anything for his family or friends. Chip, dad ,grandpa spent most of his later years with his daughter Andrea ,her husband Travis and his grandchildren. He loved his children and grandchildren more than anything even if he did not see them they were talked about often. There are little words to describe the loss we feel and how much he will be missed.
