Margaret H. Turner

March 24, 1924 — October 2, 2020

Margaret Hughes Turner, 96, passed away October 2nd, 2020 Margaret was born in 1924 in Inglewood, California to Maud and Frank Dugay. She spent her younger years in San Dimas, California before the family relocated to Dillon, Montana; and then the Butte where she graduated high school. After school, she moved to Pasadena, California for a short time and worked for Lockheed Aircraft as a riveter on the P-38. In 1943, she moved to Coeur d’ Alene where her father was hired as a carpenter at Farragut. When the war ended, she stayed in Coeur d’ Alene and worked for the phone company. In 1949, she married George Hughes, who had been her boss at Farragut. They moved to Wallace, and then Silverton, where he operated the Enterprise Laundry and Dry Cleaning. Margaret was a cub scout leader, a 4-H leader, and extraordinary seamstress, and volunteered for anything. George and Margaret moved to Coeur d’ Alene in 1972 and enjoyed spending time at their lake place and on their houseboat, traveling in their motor home, and spending time with friends. After George died, she enjoyed many adventures with long-time friends. She had a great sense of humor, was always an optimist, and never complained. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, George Hughes, Keith Turner, and Jack Whalen; and three siblings, Mary Cartmell, Ida Reul, and Ernie Dugay. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Hughes Bredeson (Glen) of Coeur d’ Alene; and son, George Hughes (Gleniece) of Post Falls; grandchildren, Gretchen Bredeson, Kelli Bredeson, Chris Rice, Holly Hughes, Hal Hughes, Jake Hughes, and several great-grandchildren.
