William David Spraul

February 13, 1940 — November 15, 2016

William David “ Dave “ Spraul , 76, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away November 15, 2016 in comfort and peace and surrounded by loved ones. Dave was born February 13, 1940 in Piqua, Ohio to Paul and Margaret ( Chronerberry ) Spraul. Dave spent his childhood in Ohio where he attended Brunnerdale Catholic Seminary School. Dave met Sally Decker in Ohio and they were later married February 3, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Piqua, Ohio. They were married 54 years when Dave passed. Soon after their marriage Dave joined the United States Army Reserves and entered boot camp at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After boot camp, Dave returned to Ohio and was honorably discharged from the Army on February 10, 1968. Dave moved and lived throughout the United States including Rochester, New York, Seattle, Washington, Spokane, Washington, San Francisco, California, Portland, Oregon, and finally Spokane, Washington. Dave worked in many roles during his long and highly notable career in wholesale distribution. After his retirement he moved to North Idaho settling in Post Falls, Idaho. Dave was a dedicated Christian and a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Dave was a hard working volunteer for many charities. Dave was an active member and past president of the Post Falls Kiwanis Club. Dave enjoyed rock hounding, golfing, fishing, travelling, playing cards, military miniature modeling, music and singing, gardening and landscaping, outdoor adventures, spending time with family and friends, and much more. Dave had an infectious laugh and sense of humor. He will be remembered as a very kind, generous, funny, and nurturing man. He is survived by his loving wife Sally of the family home in Post Falls, Idaho; two sons Gregory ( Christy ) Spraul of Spokane Valley, Washington, Jonathan ( Sonya ) Spraul of Pullman, Washington; one daughter Joan Elizabeth Ponsness of Snohomish, Washington; five grandchildren; Kyle, Morgan, Jordan, Sydney, and Allison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Daniel and Douglas Spraul A private family gathering has been held. A large formal service would probably devolve into something so fun and big that the National Guard would be called in to break it up. We will consider all our future times with family and friends as an opportunity to celebrate Dave. Dave’s ashes will be interred in a niche in the military commemorative wall at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls, Idaho. The family suggests that memorials may be made to a local charity of choice or in a quick prayer. Some of Dave’s favorite charities were Catholic Charities, Kiwanis Club, Meals on Wheels, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, and many more.
