Vernon Lee Mahler went home to Jesus Friday May 10, 2013 after a noble fight with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by daughter, Kira Dawn Mahler, brother, Greg Mahler, sister, Sandy Mahler Opp, four nephews, and one niece. Born in Scobey Montana April 29, 1948, to Pauline Kennedy Mahler and Donald Mahler, Vernon grew up in Spokane, Washington. He joined the army in 1967 and served his country in Vietnam through January 9, 1970. Before coming to Idaho to care for his aging mother, he lived in Florida, Hawaii, Arizona, Washington, and Alaska. Vernon cherished time in the Idaho woods, where he loved to photograph God's creation, write, hunt and pray. He published www.areyousavedyet.com, www.demiseoftheusa.com, www.howtodefinelove.com, www.alzheimersinhomecare.com, www.virtuesandvice.com .
Vernon's greatest desire was for others to trust in Jesus' saving grace and he used every opportunity to spread the message of God's love and forgiveness until his parting words, "God is good." Special thanks to his steadfast friends and hospice nurses who were with him until he heard those precious words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord." In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice House of North Idaho.
