Velma Sherrill

Velma Mae Sherrill, 75, of Post Falls, Passed away December 21, 2013 at North Idaho Advanced Care Hospital. She was born on March 30, 1938 to Grace Alice and John Robert Harris in La Grande, OR. Velma was the eldest of their four children. Velma graduated from high school in Oregon in 1956. Velma married Bennie Ward Sherrill on April 10, 1959, and together they had two children. They lived in numerous places throughout Washington, Idaho, and Oregon before finally settling in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho in 1965. The pair later divorced in May of 1979. Velma was a fun-loving soul, with a wonderful sense of humor. She will be remembered by many for her practical jokes, and the way she could make anyone laugh. She was an expert with both a sewing machine and a crochet hook. She loved to make gifts for her family and friends. Velma loved her family and being there to offer support. She was kind hearted and would help anyone who needed it. She loved to work, and was known for doing the jobs that others would not think about. She also loved to garden and was constantly found working in her flower beds. Velma will be missed by many. Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and John, her sisters Lola and Maxine, and her brother Leo. She is survived by her children: Dorothy Metcalf of Coeur d' Alene, and Chuck and Lora Sherrill of Post Falls; brother Ken Harris of Weston, Oregon; 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great friends. Per Velma's request there will be no services held, however, there will be a celebration of life set for a date sometime in the spring.
