Thoreau "Jill" Evernden was born in Crowell, TX on August 13, 1934. She attended high school in Kermit, TX and later obtained her Nursing Degree in Baton Rouge, La. She eventually moved to the Lake Tahoe area where she began working in the casino industry, which is where she met Larry, her soul mate, in 1971. Together they moved to Carlin, NV where Larry became a blaster at the Carlin Gold Mine (Newmont). Their love for the outdoors brought them together when they leased a turquoise mine north of Carlin. In Jill's spare time she enjoyed her animals, sewing, making jewelry, being in the outdoors, and spending time in her garden.
After losing Larry in 1994, Jill began to do what she and Larry dreamed about. She began to travel. Jill watched the Beluga whales in Alaska, watched the sun set from the mountain tops in Colorado, and she fed tortoises in her Florida back yard.
Jill had a way of inspiring people. In the early hours of Saturday morning, Sept. 17, 2011, God extended his hand to Jill to guide her home to the Heavens. Her kind words and wisdom will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
