Susan Newcomb

November 11, 1944 — July 22, 2013

Susan, beloved wife and mother, left this life peacefully with her family surrounding her on July 22, 2013. She was diagnosed with cancer in January of this year and fought an unbelievably courageous battle. Susan was born 68 years ago in Riverside, California to Paul and Melva Maley. She graduated from Huntington Beach High School and married her high school sweetheart, Jon R. (J.R.) Newcomb, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 25th of this year. After raising two daughters, she took the initiative to continue her education and earned a Master's Degree at the age of 55. On September 1, 1999, Susan, J.R. and Susan's mother Melva relocated from California to Hayden, Idaho. Susan and J. R. continued the business they began in California, Dragons Point Computers, which they ran together until the day she started chemotherapy. Susan looked for her own. She never did, never said or never wrote what someone else could do, say, or write as well as she. She lived life to the fullest and in the joy of living with the ultimate loving, caring family she helped create, still she cared for nothing in herself but what she felt nowhere else..and out of herself she created..the most irreplaceable of beings. She is survived by her husband, J.R. and their daughters, Sherie (Kenneth) Safford of Hesperia, California and Tricia (Robert) Artis of Coeur d'Alene; two sisters, Marilyn (Warren) Thomas of Overland Park, Kansas and Jan (Michael) Kulick of Cotopaxi, Colorado; one brother, Paul (Sharon) Maley, Jr. of Chula Vista, California; two aunts, Jeannette Hill and Dorothea Maley of Rathdrum, Idaho; nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Melva, and her sister Judith (Gerard) Malone of Lester, West Virginia. A private family gathering will be held Saturday morning, July 27, in honor of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent in her name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
