Shirley Mae Hatfield was born to Edwin and Caroline Dahl on February 18, 1929. Her childhood was spent on the family farm in Dagmar, Montana. At age 18, Shirley married Gene Lobdell in November 1947. Shirley and Gene had two children, daughter Charlene and son Michael. Shirley and Gene later divorced.
On September 21, 1966 Shirley married Donald Hatfield and settled together in Great Falls, Montana. When Don retired from the Air Force in 1977, they purchased 5 acres of land near Blanchard, Idaho and in 1978 built their house with help from friends and locals. It was their “retirement in the country” home. After Don’s death in 2006, Shirley managed the home on her own. She was very into sewing, quilting, gardening, dancing, and decorating inside and outside for every season and holiday.
Shirley is survived by her children Charlene (Michael) Luzynski, and Michael (Alice) Lobdell; 4 granddaughters and 7 great grandchildren.
Shirley peacefully passed on to eternity surrounded by family on Friday May 17, 2019. There will be a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution in Shirley’s name to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 W. Prairie Ave. Coeur d Alene, Id 83815.
