Sally Annabelle Sergeant-LuPiba (Shaw)
Mom passed on in the early morning hours of Monday, July 18, 2011 from complications during surgery. With tender loving care and family at her side, she truly left a legacy of Love.
Our mother was born November 14, 1935 in South Bend, Indiana. She was the twelfth of 13 children born to Harold Minier Shaw and Gladys Neilson Shaw. Her mother passed away in 1942 when Mom was only seven years old.
She is survived by her six sisters, seven children, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. Children: Jayne Singleton, Julie Cameron, Joan Wahlers (m. Karl), Jacqueline Sergeant , John Sergeant (m. Marlena), Jeffrey Sergeant (m. Maureen) and Pete LuPiba (m. Jennifer). Grandchildren: Shon, Bridget, Stephanie, Amanda, Nicholas, Joshua, Ashlie, Dylan, Shannon, Kristen, Lauren, Danielle, Michelle, Jamie and Kelly. Great-grandchildren: Devin and Lily.
Our mother graduated from Central High School in 1953 and married Richard "Dick" Sergeant (d. 1992). They had six children and divorced in 1971. Mom married James "Jimmy" LuPiba in 1976, had one child together and lived amidst the beauty of Hawai'i before their divorce in 1993.
Mom touched many lives through many careers including banking and real estate. She loved to dance, sing, travel and did it all her way! She called Indiana, California, Hawaii, Ohio, Idaho, New York & Washington state home.
Mom never knew a stranger; always supported our dreams; taught us the importance of family ties; raised us to take it to the Lord in prayer; instilled in us to forgive/forget; and demonstrated to us the qualities of unconditional love, mercy and grace. The attributes, genius and talents that were Sally's will come to inhabit us in a strange, mysterious way; her absence will fill us with her presence. She will bestow on us her light from wherever she is. This is Sally's legacy. In the midst of our loss, this is her gift. Wait for it; look for it. Expect it and surely we will receive it.
