Ross Thurber

June 18, 1925 — September 24, 2011

ROSS DELAUN THURBER, 86 On Sept 24, 2011, Ross passed away at his residence in Veradale, WA. He was born in Fairfield, Idaho to Joseph Shelton Thurber and Phebe Cox. He is survived by his eternal companion Betty of 61 years and seven children: MaryAnn Ball of Boise, Paul Thurber of Caldwell, Deena Jordan of Boise, Delaun Thurber of Meridian, Christine Dietzel of Spokane, Myron Thurber of Spokane, and Benjamin Thurber of Fayetteville, Arkansas; 38 grandchildren; 76 great grandchildren; two brothers Stan and Karl and one sister Florence. At the age of eighteen, Ross answered his country's call and served in the Army Air Corps in the European theater during World War II earning several medals. He was a machinist by trade and one of the very best. He was also an inventor. He loved his country and was involved with the Spokane County Republican Party along with other organizations such as American Legion, Heritage Foundation and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ross was a life-long missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ross was a gentle, generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all that knew him. He had a unique sense of humor and his children grew up knowing that "daddy can fix anything". He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and hiking. Bell Tower Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements. His service will be Thursday, Sept 29, 2011 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building located at 13608 E. 40th Avenue - Spokane Valley, WA. (Across from the LDS Temple) There will be a viewing for friends and family from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. His services will be held immediately thereafter starting at 11:00 a.m. Upon conclusion, his burial will be at the Saltese Cemetery. Donations to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 'missionary fund' may be made in lieu of flowers.
