Robert Lewis Bacon

Robert Lewis Bacon was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Spokane. He spent his first six years of his life at Big Island on the North Fork of the Clearwater River, which is now under water from Dworshak Dam. His mom and dad, Dee Dee (Bare) and Lewis Bacon, ran the ranch for Potlatch Forests Inc. When he was 6, the family moved to Headquarters so Bob could attend school. Bob graduated from Pierce High School in 1950. He attended college at the Lewiston Normal School and became one of "Jordan's Orphans." He was drafted into the military during the Korean War. When he got out of basic training the war ended, and he was stationed at Fort Lewis for the remaining length of his service. Bob worked for the railroad as a young man and also worked for Potlatch in the logging business, decking logs for the log drives, building roads, cruising timber, hauling logs and teaching many drivers how to drive a truck. Bob took flying lessons on the GI Bill and bought an airplane. He really loved to fly but sold his plane to buy a logging truck. He hauled logs in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Montana and New Mexico. When he sold his truck, he sort of retired and went to work for Baker Truck Lines hauling chips. Bob married Sharon L. (Miles) Brown on June 12, 1964. They were married for more than 49 years. Bob loved hunting, fishing, boating and camping on Dworshak Dam with family and friends, and camping on the North Fork with family. He got a four-wheeler, which was a dream come true. Bob visited Hawaii, went on a cruise to Alaska and enjoyed numerous trips to the Oregon Coast. He loved going to Wendover, Nev. He spent a lot of time in his shop doing woodworking, building birdhouses, spoons and things for Sharon to paint. He had his welder going almost every day. Bob loved following his kids' and grandkids' sports and activities and attended every one that he could and always yelled at the referees and umpires. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Tami L. Vaudreuil of Coeur d'Alene and Traci L. Greco and her husband Joe; grandchildren Tiffany Ferguson, Trisha Marjamaa and her husband Zach, Zach Vaudreuil and Stephen Vaudreuil, all of Coeur d'Alene, Brittney Devorak of Boise and Jacob Greco of Lewiston; and great-grandchildren Jaiden and Will Ferguson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Lewis Bacon. Bob passed away May 4, 2014, at Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho. No service is planned at this time, but a memorial get-together will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital, the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley or to a charity of your choice.
