Richard Hess

August 13, 1919 — October 13, 2012

Dick passed away peacefully in his sleep on Oct. 13, 2012 at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls, ID. He was 93. He was born in Pocatello, ID on Aug. 13, 1919 and spent his childhood days growing up and attending school in Challis, ID. At age 17, he secretly married the love of his love, Ruby, and soon thereafter, was called to serve in the Army during World War II. In 1945, they moved to California where he shared a car dealership with his two brothers. After one year, they moved back to Boise where they built their home. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic and taught car maintenance at a school. He prided himself in providing a wonderful life for his family. You could always find him in his garage with a project, either building, fixing or creating. If there was a problem, he would read and figure out what needed to be done. He was an excellent woodworker and one of his many fine accomplishments were the beautiful grandfather clocks he made for everyone in the family. He had a listening ear for anyone who needed to talk and took interest in others lives. After 50 years of marriage, his wife passed away and he decided to move North where he would be closer to family. He lived in Hayden Lake for many years and enjoyed taking care of his home, giving a helping hand to anyone in need and always puttering in his garage. Dick is survived by relatives in the Boise area, his daughter, Loretta Wood of Coeur d' Alene and son, Monte Hess of Boise, 2 grandchildren; Joel Anderson and wife Shawn, and Kimberly Cowles and husband Aurin, 5 great-grandchildren, Blaine, Baley, Selena, Gavin and Cole. They will dearly miss their Grandpa. "Dad, you blessed us and will remain in our hearts forever." Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and caretakers at Guardian Angel Homes. Services will be held at a later date at Cloverdale in Boise, ID where he will be buried with his wife.
