Nicholas McDaniel (36), a police officer who helped change the world left us too soon on October 22, 2023. Nick was born December 7, 1986 in Hilo, Hawai’i. He spent all of his adult life in law enforcement doing what he loved. Nick joined the Hawai’i Police Department on February 1, 2011. Following the Academy and field training, he was promoted to Police Officer 2 working in the Kona Patrol District. He was later promoted, working in the Area 2 vice section. He resigned on August 26, 2022.
Nick moved his family to Post Falls, Idaho and joined the Post Falls Police Department on February 21, 2023 with the intent of a lifelong career. Though his time of service with them was short, he left an impact that was felt among his fellow officers and the entire community.
Nick lived by several principles:
“Don’t touch it twice.” (Do it right the first time.)
“Work harder, nobody cares.” (Stop whining.)
“Emotions aside, give me the facts.”
Survivors include: Fiancé Paige, two beloved boys, mother and father (Heather and Danny), brothers (Cameron and Ryan) and many extended family across the US. Nick was not only an amazing, kind, hardworking, “do it by the book” police officer, but also was creative and kind with his approach to policing. He was an amazing father, son and husband. Family came first over everything. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on through those whose life he touched.
