Margaret Jean Domit

March 31, 1934 — May 8, 2018

Peggy S. Domit of Post Falls, ID, passed away on May 8, 2018 at the Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Peggy was born in Spokane, WA, to Cecil and Martha (Connelly) Poston. Peggy attended Hutton Grade School and St. Pauls School for Girls in Walla Walla, WA, graduating in 1952. After High School, Peggy returned to Spokane to enroll in Kinman Business School.

Peggy then began attending Law School at Gonzaga University, one of the first two women to do so, until she decided to stay home and raise her family. After a 20-year hiatus, Peggy returned to the workforce as a legal secretary, working for William E. Hennessey until his retirement. After moving to Post Falls, Peggy worked part time at the Post Falls liquor store, where she made new friends and reconnected with old friends who traveled from Spokane to purchase their less expensive supplies.

Peggy loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises. She achieved elite status with Holland America for her many trips, including excursions to the Panama Canal, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean Sea, and her personal favorite, from Chile, around the tip of South America, to Brazil. This trip included a stop in the Falkland Islands, where she visited a large colony of penguins up close. Peggy also thoroughly enjoyed time spent, over a period of 35 years, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she met many hard-working locals and was often invited into their homes to meet their families and enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine.

Peggy was an excellent cook and enjoyed her dogs and cats. One of her fondest memories was of the pony she rode as a little girl while living at the Waikiki Dairy, a Holstein ranch in North Spokane, owned and operated by her father and his brothers. Peggy was the granddaughter of Washington Trust Bank Founder, Martin B. Connelly.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Domit, at the family home in Post Falls, a place she treasured and enjoyed spending time on it’s deck, relaxing and overlooking the beautiful Spokane river. Peggy and Jack had been together for 40 years at the time of her passing.

Peggy was preceded in death, in 1966, by her first husband, prominent local attorney and politician Joseph Stangle, and is survived by sons Greg (Sharon) Stangle, Spokane, Pat (Melissa) Stangle, Boerne, Texas and daughter, Marti Stangle, Spokane. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Charlie, Casey, Haley and Doak, two sisters, Chari (Dave) Avolio, Francie (Ken) Jewesson, a brother, Bart Poston, and sister-in-law and traveling partner, Linda Young. Surviving extended family include Robert Domit, Rockford, WA, Jackie Domit, Spokane, Leilani Domit, Spokane and John Domit, Jr., Spokane, as well as their 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nephews and nieces.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and one step daughter, Robin VanHorne.

A Celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of North Idaho or the Union Gospel Mission Center for Women and Children in Coeur d’Alene would be appreciated.
