John Jay Kirkpatrick, 68 passed away Tuesday September 25th surrounded by his family at the hospital in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho from an extended illness.
John was born May 25th 1950 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa to Robert and Gretchen Kirkpatrick and sister Linda. He grew up on his family farm in Nichols, Iowa. John graduated from Lone Tree High school in 1968. John met his wife “the lucky woman” Shari in Dayton, Montana and later married at the hitching post in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho February 21st 1984. During that time he welcomed Shari’s daughters Tina and Lisa and had their daughter Aimee. John and his family made a life in Nichols, Iowa until “returning to the scene of the crime” settling in Rathdrum, Idaho.
John enjoyed riding his motorcycle through many different states. He liked to fish with friends and family. John was pretty good with his hands building and making furniture. He was an avid reader. He wasn’t a man of many words but he always had a joke to tell and a great laugh. He enjoyed watching his Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. Most importantly John was a family man. He always had a wet willy waiting for all the kids when they walked through the door. We all knew that John was “a delight” even if he thought he needed to tell us.
John will be deeply missed by his wife Shari. His daughters Tina (Tom), Lisa (Kelly) and Aimee (Nick). His grandchildren Tyler (Heather), KayLeigh (Jullian), Danielle (Kenny), Samantha (Draven), Chase, Harry, Rainee and Clayton. His eleven great grandchildren and many adopted family members.
He was preceded in death by his sister and his parents.
