John C. Fitzgerald, 48, passed away on June 25th, 2022, in Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. His family was by his side. John is survived by his wife, Angela, and four kids: Savannah, Austin, Carson and Owen, all of Post Falls. He is preceded in death by his Father, Jim Vandaveer and Mother-in-Law, Diana Norman.
John was born on April 13, 1974 in Modesto, California to Penny Vandaveer. Penny later remarried Jim Vandaveer, who John considered his father. He spent time growing up in California and Kansas before moving to Lewiston, Idaho and pursuing his love for cooking. John met Angie, the love of his life, in Clarkston, Washington where they both worked at Bridge St. Connection. John and Angie were married in 1999 and eventually had four children; Savannah Caimi 23, Austin Fitzgerald 21, Carson Fitzgerald 18, Owen Fitzgerald 8. He was a great family man and loving father.
In 2005 John, Angie and their children made their home in Post Falls, Idaho. John worked at the Coeur D’ Alene resort for approximately 17 years where his love for cooking flourished and he met many lifelong friends. He was a devoted Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Houston Rockets fan. He enjoyed hunting with friends, and loved spending time on the golf course. John enjoyed supporting his kids in all their activities by coaching or cheering from the sideline. His love language was cooking for friends and family. John’s smile always lit up whatever room he walked into. He gave the best hugs and was the best listener. John loved beer, the Oregon coast, and making food for an army. Everyone is lucky to have known John. I know he is here with us today and smiling at the beautiful memories we’ve shared.
