Honoring The Life of Joanne Verda Dawson
Joanne peacefully went to be with her lord and savior on April 16th. 2023 at the age of 85. Joanne was born in Kent Michigan on Nov. 30th. 1937. Joanne met and married her one true love, Gene “Gino” Dawson, and they were married for a wonderful 46yrs. Before he passed in 2005. They had one daughter, Lora Ann Dawson, together in 1959 just a month before their first wedding anniversary, what a first gift. They loved and adored their beautiful daughter Lora who they lovely called Lori. Lori brought Nicholas “Nick” Dawson home from the hospital, which overjoyed Joanne and Gino and once mister Mason Healey came and made his entrance into the world, they were over the moon.
Grandpa Gino passed with much sadness to all but when Mason’s son Alexander “Zander” was born Oh what a joy! This filled Joanne and everyone’s hearts up a bit again.
Joanne’s grandson Nick met a girl Dawn who brought along with her 4 boys. They raised together Marcus, Steven, Michael and Justin, which filled Joanne’s heart with even more laughter. Joanne accepted them all and loved them as if they were her own.
Mason met Elle and they brought Hudson into the world. Joanne’s great grandsons Zander and Hudson were so special to her and brought much joy as did the others.
Lori wants everyone to know that her mother was her best friend, companion and her biggest cheerleader. Joanne and Lori shared many laughs together. She will miss her dearly. Lori will carry on the family stories and memories of the past. She is our family memento keeper now and the stories will live on through her.
Nicholas and Mason want everyone to know when they think of their grandmother Joanne they will always think of LOVE, ACCEPTANCE and INCLUSIVITY. Their grandma had an ability to accept people, excepting them for who they were and the circumstances that they may be in and meeting them where they were instead of judging the book. Their grandma excepted the “Latch Key Kids”, the lost or broken and helped many see something different they maybe hadn’t experienced before, Love, patience and unwavering acceptance. They don’t want you to get them wrong she was feisty, and she said it like it was. Joanne was not afraid to hold your butt accountable and put in your place with a finger in the air saying “listen here kids” she’d chase down the road after you, with a broom. HAHA! Lori can now tell everyone that story... HAHA! Joanne was grandma and grandma great to many.
We like to think Joanne is now with Gino and their best friends “The Fab Four” laughing, playing cards and best of all dancing the night away together. She leaves us a bit saddened, smarter and just better people.
Best Regards’
Joanne’s Family
