Jerry Mercier passed away on August 31. 2023 at the age of 82. Born on November 14, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois to Louis and Florence Mercier (Maas). Jerry's life was a quiet and simple one. He peacefully left this world after a battle with cancer in his home under hospice care.
Jerry met the love of his life and wife of over 56 years, Nancy (Rose) in Indiana. Together they built a beautiful family before moving to North Idaho in 1973. He primarily worked as an insurance inspector where he would photograph and take measurements of houses for new insurance policies.
Beyond his work, Jerry had a passion for classic cars. He always took meticulous care of all of his vehicles. He shared this interest with a few of his life-long friends, with whom he would swap stories and collectible cars with. Throughout his years, he also had a soft spot for collie dogs, and he showered love on the many collies he had in his lifetime. Other interests included his love of playing ping pong, and his unwavering faith in the Chicago Cubs. A true-blue Cubs fan through thick and thin (mostly thin :P) his loyalty to his team never faltered.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Nancy; step-daughter, Alison Walsh; step-son, Scott Walsh and his wife Shannon (Stone); daughter, Cathy Greene and her husband Kelly; 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Jerry's gentle smile and sense of humor will be missed by his family and friends, but we look forward to reuniting in heaven. In honor of his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Instead, let us remember him though acts of kindness and the good memories we share. Please no need for flowers.
