Janet Elaine Maday

March 19, 1939 — December 25, 2019

On December 25th, 2019, Janet Cooke Maday passed away after a long bout with Alzheimer’s. Fittingly, Christmas Day was her favorite day of celebration as a child and adult, and nearing the end of her life, she had that precious spirit of a child. This dreaded disease could not rob her of God’s simplest creations which delighted her daily .... from the sounds of birds to the presence of children. Janet’s passion was teaching. She taught 1st grade for over thirty years, and she was awarded the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award in the Irvine Unified School District. She touched the hearts of many students through the years, and when they returned to say hello, she always remembered their names. She was also known for the “mouse house” that was a favorite attraction in her classroom. Janet spent most of the last forty years living in Fountain Valley where she loved to garden, play the piano, visit the beach, and go camping, especially with her grandchildren whom she adored. As Janet lost her memory, she never lost her sense of humor and delighted in the small things. Each of her children and their spouses grew to love this woman even more as she began to need the assistance of their families. Lovingly referred to as Grammy, Mom, Janet, Jan or Jannie, her smile, laughter and outlook on life will be missed by all. We love you, Mom! Janet is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
