Irene Gladys Deckon, 97, of Rathdrum, Idaho passed away October 1, 2017 at Generations Assisted Living in Rathdrum, Idaho. Irene was born May 11, 1920 in Akron, Ohio to Dennie and Josephine (Wood) Merical.
Irene spent her childhood in Akron where she graduated from Kenmore High School in Akron, Ohio 1938. She later got a job as a secretary for a delivery company, and it was while working there that she met James Deckon in June of 1941. After a short courtship they were married in November of 1941 in Akron, Ohio.
Together they lived in Akron, where they had two sons. After James joined the Navy they moved and lived in various places. After James was discharged they returned to Akron where she worked as a seamstress in a sewing factory. James passed away August 12, 1976. She then moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1982 where she lived until 2005 when she moved to North Idaho to be near her son.
Irene loved her family, the lord, and also enjoyed traveling, walking, reading, and going out to eat.
She is survived by two sons Paul (Barbara) Deckon of Rathdrum, Idaho; and Robert (Patricia) Deckon of Panama; four grandchildren Amy, Alex, James, and Michael; four great-grandchildren Liam, Elijah, Nevaeh, and Ryker; one brother-in-law Curt Capple of Tucson, Arizona; and one niece Sally (Ed) Helm of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister.
