Gale Young Berner

Gale Y. Berner, loving mother, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and sister, passed away on October 7, 2023, at the age of 87.  She left this world peacefully under the care of the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after battling several chronic issues. Gale was born on November 30, 1935, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Vera and Columbus Young, where she grew up and graduated from High School.  She was the 2^nd of five children.  

Gale married George W. Berner Jr. in 1956, and together raised their two children in Baytown, and Houston, Texas.  At the age of 30, Gale, George and their kids moved to Yokohama, Japan.  It was a great time in their lives.  They returned to Houston in the 70’s, and Gale and George eventually retired in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  

Gale later joined Lester Allen Marsh in a Christian union, living together at the Garden Plaza in Post Falls, ID.  She was true to her Christian faith, and together with Allen cherished and embraced their beautiful lives.  Her greatest joy was being with their kids and grandkids.  She cared deeply for her family, extended family, and her friends and neighbors.  Gale was very caring and continually trying to make a positive difference in other people’s lives.  

Beyond Gale’s passion for caring for people, she was an avid reader and duplicate bridge player her entire adult life.  She loved cooking, dancing, and entertaining.  She also loved fashion and always being her best.  

Gale is survived by her daughter Susan Higbee (Monte), 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her siblings Patricia Callahan and Judy Young, and her nieces and nephews. Gale is preceded in death by her parents, her son, her brothers, her husband of 58 years, George W.
