Raised in a Navy family, Frances lived in many states: from Hawaii to Florida, then to California, across the country, again across the country to Washington, D.C. and finally back to California.
She graduated from Whittier College and began her teaching career in Maricopa, California, then moved to Coalinga, California and finished her long teaching career in Dinuba, California. Frances married George Whitmore from whom she divorced. She lived in Kingsburg, California until she retired.
Frances began a second career at radio station KICY in Nome, Alaska. While there she also worked for Alaska Airlines, finally retiring at age 87. She moved to her final home in Rathdrum, Idaho. She enjoyed her church family at the Rathdrum Bible Church.
Frances is survived by her sister Dorothy Becker of Carmel, California, her nephews, Ryan McCollum of San Ramon, California and Michael McCollum of Livermore, California plus many great and great- great nephews and nieces.
No services are planned, but her ashes will be scattered in Kings Canyon National Park in the Sierra Mountains in California, her favorite place for backpacking. Memorial donations may be made to the Rathdrum Bible Church or your favorite charity.
