Frances Lillian Wells, 94, of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho passed away January 6, 2014 at Creekside Inn Assisted Living in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. Frances was born October 2, 1919 in Minnesota to Edward and Mildred (Anderson) Gau. As a child, Frances moved with her family to the Pacific Northwest in 1922, eventually settling in Spokane, Washington.
Frances attended and graduated from North Central High School in 1937. She later went on to Wessington Springs College in South Dakota graduating in 1941.
Frances worked as an operator for Pacific Bell Telephone Company for 42 years until her retirement. She is a member of Telephone Pioneers. She met Ira Wells and they were later married April 12, 1983 in Spokane, Washington.
Frances was a life-time member of the First Free Methodist Church of Spokane, Washington. She loved playing the organ, cross country skiing, gardening, and volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission food bank.
She is survived by five nieces Marsha Crawford, Sharon Hagan, and Patty Gilmore, Kristen (Peter) Rognaldson of Worley, Idaho, Eleanor (Dale) Harvey of Everett, Washington,. She is also survived by cousins, Georgia Payton, Priscilla (Don) Wegg, Faith (Gary) Greenland, Steve Jorgenson, Neal (Irene) Jorgenson, Marilyn Anderson, Arlene (Glenn) Ripley, Allen (Diane) Anderson, Gary (Janice) Mathison and Beverly (Jerry) Schmidt. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Clifford Gau, and George Gau, one sister, Marian Dixon, niece, Cynthia Gibson, an nephew, Brian Dixon.
A funeral service will be held Friday, January 17th, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Sunset Chapel at Fairmont Memorial Park 5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane, Washington 99209, with burial to follow at Fairmont Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Union Gospel Mission, Center for Women and Children at 196 W. Haycraft Ave. Coeur d' Alene, Idaho 83815.
