Edward Allen Hempel, 63, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away October 10, 2016 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Ed was born April 6, 1953 in Wallace, Idaho to John and Mary (Blum) Hempel.
Ed grew up in the Silver Valley where he attended and graduated from Wallace High School in 1971. Following graduation, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served as a submariner during the Vietnam War.
After seven years of honorable service to his country, Ed worked in Bremerton, Washington in the ship yards and later became a partner in a solar heating company. Following, he worked as an HVAC and Refrigeration wholesale supplier for more than 30 years.
Ed’s hobbies included anything the outdoors had to offer including camping, hunting and fishing. He was a science and history buff as well as an avid Seahawks and Gonzaga Basketball fan. He also loved being involved with his girls’ activities and spending time with friends and family.
He was an active member in his church communities as well as with the Submarine Veterans and the American Legion. Ed truly loved helping others and profoundly touched the lives of all that knew him.
Ed is survived by two daughters Priya Hempel of Atlanta, Georgia, and Abby Hempel of Spokane Valley, Washington; one brother John Hempel of Georgetown, Texas; eight nephews, and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held October 19, 2016 at 10am at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 1700 E. Pennsylvania Ave. Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho 83814. Following at 3pm, inurnment will be at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake Washington.
