Our beloved husband, father, brother, and friend Ed Fischer passed away peacefully at home Thursday, May 29, 2014. His sensitive nature and kindness will be missed by many.
Ed was born in 1950 to Ed and Freda Fischer in Sandusky, Ohio. He lived much of his life in Salinas, California, where he graduated from Salinas High School in 1969. He later returned to Salinas with his wife to raise their children. Ed was loved and respected by many in the community. Ed and Andi moved to Greenacres, Washington in 2013 to live closer to family.
Some of his most cherished memories were made while serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Mexico City Mission from 1971 to 1973. After returning from his mission, Ed attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a degree in Accounting. Perhaps, more importantly, that was where he met Andrea Pathakis, whom he married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with five children, and 12 grandchildren. Ed and Andrea had a beautiful life together.
Ed’s favorite times were those he spent with his family; who meant the world to him. He was very proud of his children and their spouses: Jamie (Ammon), Matt (Melanie), Topher (available), Carrie (Duben, deceased), and Katie (Tyler). Ed was a wonderful grandfather who treasured every moment that he was able to spend with his 12 grandchildren.
Ed enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, scouting, playing sports, and most of all, spending time with family. He was a lifelong supporter of scouting having earned his Eagle Scout at 13 years old and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.
He served in many capacities in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the people he was able to serve. He loved the many years he was able to spend in the scouting program and with the youth, and as bishop of the Salinas 1st ward. Ed was able to touch the lives of the many people he served and made lasting impressions.
An open house will be held Wednesday, June 4th at Ed & Andi’s home at 6:00 – 8:00. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 5th at the Spokane East Stake Center, 13608 E. 40th Avenue at 11:00 a.m.
