Du’Ell (Dewey) Earl Lybbert was born July 2, 1929, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Samuel Henry Earl and Laura Ellen Prince Earl. Dewey was the ninth child in the family—a blonde, brown-eyed beauty who completed the family circle. Her siblings were Aubrey, Beth, Joyce, DeVoe, Dale, LaRue, Jared, and Ethel. All are deceased except for Ethel who resides in Mukilteo, Washington.
Dewey was a charmer from day one. Friends were many, and the family adored their sweet baby sister! As she grew, it became apparent that she was a compassionate, loyal, and loving member of her family.
On Sept 25th, 1947, Dewey met and married the man of her dreams, Garth B. Lybbert. From that time forward, her life has been lovingly devoted to her husband and the tender care of their children, Shayne, Julie, and M. Garth. As time went on, Dewey’s joys increased as grandchildren and great-grandchildren were welcomed into the family.
During the course of their life, they moved several times before settling in Othello, WA to raise their children, establish a career and build their home. It was with great care that Dewey created a beautiful environment where all who entered felt welcomed and loved. They retired in Hayden, ID where they enjoyed sharing time with family and friends on the lake, at sporting events and holidays. Upon the passing of her husband, Dewey moved to Sequim, WA to be in the loving care of her daughter, Shayne, until she passed away August 27, 2014.
Dewey was known for her delightful sense of humor, her personal fortitude and her compassionate service to her family, church and friends. She had a deep appreciation of beauty in all its many forms. Her artistic expression included composition of short story and poetry, piano, baking, cake decorating, sewing and a myriad of crafts and handiwork.
Dewey leaves behind her sister Ethel Schilling, her children Shayne Fillmore, Julie McKernan and M. Garth Lybbert, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and scores of nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends far and near.
Memorial services will be conducted by Bell Tower Funeral Home at the LDS Chapel in Hayden, ID on Sept. 5th at 3:00 pm. Interment will be at Washington Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Medical Lake, WA on Sept. 8th.
