Donald Clarence Burk passed away on May 18, 2019 surrounded in heart and spirit by his family. He suffered from dementia for several years, but was blessed by the loving care and attention of his family through the progression of the disease. Don’s life was full and complete.
Don was raised in Ephrata, Washington with his twin brother, Doug. He married his high school sweet heart, Nancy, in 1959 in Japan while serving in the Army. They raised their family in Moses Lake, Washington close to their families. In their 60 years of marriage, Don and Nancy had four children and nine grandchildren and many wonderful life experiences. Family is a central part of their lives.
Don worked as the Grant County Health Administrator for 13 years. Afterwards he purchased a delicatessen in Moses Lake selling specialty cheeses for another decade. He moved on to form a real estate investment group which he managed until retirement. Don and Nancy are long time members of the United Methodist Church. Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club of Moses Lake.
In retirement, Don and Nancy served as ambassadors with the Nomads, working on 26 mission assignments in the United States over 10 years. They vacationed in Mexico regularly and went on an Alaskan cruise. They traveled internationally to visit family serving in the military. Spending time with family and friends was an integral part of their lives.
Don and Nancy moved to the Coeur d’ Alene area to be near their children and grandchildren in 2006. They loved to attend the sporting, music, and school events of the grandchildren living in the area. Don’s favorite past times were bridge, cribbage, pinochle, computers, and reading. Don and Nancy have enjoyed living in a retirement community since 2017.
Don will be missed as a loving husband, dependable father, doting grandfather, devoted brother, trustworthy uncle, and faithful friend. He was generous and kind to everyone he met. He was loved for his genuine smile and his loving and gentle spirit. He will not be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four children David (Nicole), Cindy Pavel, Cheryl Cunnington (David), Stephen (Suzie); and his brother, Doug (Jeanette).
