David Leroy Wilkinson, 59, of Medical Lake, Washington passed away January 31, 2017 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Washington. David was born July 5, 1957 in Spokane, Washington to Hugh and Joyce (Osterhout) Wilkinson.
David was a proud Special Olympics Medalist, and he also enjoyed bowling, swimming, dances, traveling, and collecting family pictures. He was a volunteer at Pre-Vocational Training Center and Skils’kin.
David attended Garland Guild School from 1962 – 1970. He lived at Lakeland Village from 1975 – 1979 in Cedar Hall. In June of 1979 he moved to Haven Homes where he spent many wonderful years. He enjoyed his many friends and staff members at Haven Homes who affectionately called him “Wilkie.”
David brought joy & happiness to the lives of all who knew him. Even though he had special needs David was able to teach us many of life’s important attributes such as, patience, understanding, caring for the needs of others, showing love unconditionally, and putting others before yourself. His smile and hugs will be greatly missed.
David was preceded in death by his father and older brother Mike Wilkinson.
David is survived by his loving mother and her husband Tom McCormick of St. George, Utah; brothers Ron (Cheryl) Conner, Karl (Tamy) Wilkinson, Harold (Patti) Wilkinson, Paul (Donna) Wilkinson, Sisters Dianna (Mick) Cook, and Lauana Heffley; his aunt Betty Jean Lee and Uncle Frank (Marion) Wilkinson and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 21022 E. Wellesley, Otis Orchards, Washington 99027. Burial will be held at Pines Cemetery 1402 S. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley, Washington 99206.
