David Arthur Heft, 64, of Rathdrum, Idaho passed away February 10, 2014, with his family by his side, at the Hospice House in Hayden, Idaho. David was born October 21, 1949 in Sacramento, California to Arthur and Norma (Lentz) Heft. David attended and graduated from Hiram Johnson High School in 1967 in Sacramento, California.
David met Heather Cook in 1966, they were married in 1969. Although they divorced in 1979, they still remained friends. He later met Karen Gallagher when she was attending college and he was working as a farrier for the college. They were later married on horseback, in Santa Fe, New Mexico at Karen's parent's home. They were married more than 30 years when Karen passed away in 2009.
David had worked as a parts manager for Joe Horace in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Gonzales Chrysler in Espanola, New Mexico. In June of 2003 David moved to Idaho settling in Rathdrum, Idaho, and worked for Dave Smith Motors again as a parts manager for the past nine years.
David loved to take photos of old mines, barns and buildings, and especially loved to capture lightning strikes. He also enjoyed collecting baseball cards, and old photographs. He was a big Beatles, and Bob Marley fan.
David is survived by his mother Norma of Hauser, Idaho; four children Teresa (Greg) Blouin-Heft of Hood River, Oregon, Troy Heft-Hobbs of Vancouver, Washington, David (Geraldine) Heft of Los Alamos, New Mexico, and Corey (Erin) Heft of Aurora, Colorado; two brothers Larry Van Sickle of Hilo, Hawaii, and Gordon (Lezlee) Heft of Hauser, Idaho; one granddaughter Jasmine Heft; seven nephews and four nieces. David was preceded in death by his father, and his wife.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday February 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Calvary Rathdrum 15095 N McCartney St, Rathdrum, ID 83858.
