Daren Nelson

September 18, 1932 — November 3, 2013

Daren Drew Nelson, 81, of Post Falls, Idaho passed away quietly at home on November 3, 2013 in his favorite chair, surrounded by his family. He was born September 18, 1932 to Oscar and Lena (Ard) Nelson and worked his family's potato farm in Firth, ID until serving his country in the Army. Daren Nelson was a man of many talents and interests. He was a hardworking man, a good husband and father, and a true patriot. He was a man of few words and strong opinion. He married Elaine Christensen in Shelley, Idaho in 1955. He had many careers, farmer, hairdresser, disassembling a mine in Alaska, but found his true calling working with his hands making ornamental iron. He spent 30 years creating and shaping ornamental iron for Anderson Iron Works, where he then retired at the age of 77. He spent the next years at home and traveling with his family. Many happy moments were shared during those trips along with his famous pizza. Daren is survived by his wife, Elaine at the family home in Post Falls, Idaho; two sons Randy (wife Chris) Moedl of Rigby, Idaho and Kelly (wife Pam) Nelson of Bellevue, Washington; two daughters Kim (husband Cecil) Lewis of Post Falls, Idaho and Keri (husband Dan) Lybeer of Post Falls, Idaho , 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother, Van and sister Jean. We all will miss him and remember him fondly. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the general mission fund of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Post Falls, Idaho. A memorial service will be held in Shelley, ID at the Goshen Cemetery in the spring of 2014.
