DANIEL JAMES HORNBACHER JOHNSEN
Daniel James Hornbacher Johnsen known Dan, of Spirit Lake, passed away in his home, after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the age of 57 years. He was born in Minot, North Dakota on December 27, 1964, to Gladys (Mayer) Hornbacher Johnsen and Delano J. Hornbacher.
Dan grew up in North Dakota. He joined the Coast Guard in the early 1980’s and was stationed in Seattle, Washington. It was there that he met his wife, Valerie (Daniels) Johnsen. They were married in Kent, Washington on July 18, 1986.
Dan was a lead mechanic for Boeing in Auburn, Washington for 30 years. He lived with his wife in Buckley, WA before retiring to Bonner County in 2020. There he built his dream retirement home with his wife, Valerie. Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, camping, and kayaking.
Dan is survived by is wife of 36 years, Valerie (Daniels) Johnsen; his daughter Brieann Knott and son-in-law Adam Knott of Rathdrum; his daughter Kyra Devens and son-in-law Brady Devens of Spirit Lake; his granddaughters Ella and Aria Knott, and Harper Johnsen. He is also survived by his mother Gladys Johnsen of Keene, NH; his sisters Brenda J. Romanello of Castle Rock, CO, Carrie Rubin of Akron, OH, and Jo’Rinda Johnsen of Keene, NH; 21 nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bill.
Dan is preceded in death by his father Delano James Hornbacher, his grandparents Daniel and Lydia (Nachatilo) Hornbacher, and William and Irene (Brinker) Mayer, all of Minot, ND.
