Cynthia Lee Matheney was born May 4, 1956 to Harold Doyle McMillin and Geraldine Dolly McMillin in Tucson, Arizona.
Cindy loved being with her family, especially Grandpa McMillin. He would sing to her as she sat on his lap. Springfield, Oregon is the town she grew up in. At age 3, being a friendly child with a beautiful smile, she won the Miss Slick Chick contest. Her only sibling, Laurie was born four years later.
Cindy and family loved camping, water skiing, and playing games. Dorena Lake was their favorite place. School was easy for her, especially math. Teenage was a difficult time. In 1972 she attempted to take her own life. Her recovery was very long with many struggles. Most of the progress was due to her strong will, the help of her mother, Gerry, and the nuns at St. Benedictine Nursing Center, in Mt. Angel.
While in Portland learning to become more independent she met the love of her life, Verl Matheney. They married a year later in a small ceremony. Their favorite activities were going to church, dinners, movies, Walmart, and especially spending time with family. With the support of Kip and Sandy Clark, Verl's niece, they enjoyed many years in Spokane where they made many new friends. About 15 years ago they moved to Hermiston. They lived at Rose Arbor, which is now Guardian Angel. Laurie, Jeff, Holly, Derek, and Shae Harmon enjoyed celebrating many family and holiday times together.
Verl passed in 2015 and Cindy missed him terribly. She enjoyed doing her nails, puzzles, word find books, shopping, and playing games, especially Scrabble. Cindy was blessed with many fun times spent with family, her friends from church and Guardian Angel including Roberta, LaVerne, and Barbara.
Cindy passed on March 29 from cancer and will be dearly missed. Our memories of those times, Cindy's contagious laugh and smile, I know you can still hear and picture it, also knowing that Cindy and Verl are together again helps us at this difficult time.
