Holland B. Ford, aged 72, passed away in his home surrounded by loved ones, May 11, 2014, after battling lymphoma. Holland joins his beloved wife Carolyn, just five days after her passing. Holland was born July 24, 1941 in Centerville, Utah, the sixth child of Hugh J. Ford and Rosalia Badger.
Holland grew up in Centerville, Utah among numerous cousins and relatives. He has often regaled his family with tales of a happy childhood working on the farm. As a young man, Holland served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Netherlands. Holland later attended and graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in English. During the summer of 1963, Holland went to work for his brother in Quincy, Washington. In one short week, he met Carolyn, fell in love and became engaged. Fittingly, their children often refer to Quincy as the "City of Love." On December 20, 1963, Holland and Carolyn were married in the Logan, Utah Temple. Their young family lived briefly in Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Pasco, moving to Spokane, Washington in 1969 to attend Gonzaga Law School. Holland has been a well respected attorney and community member in Spokane for over 40 years. His wisdom and counsel have been sought by many. In their later years, Holland and Carolyn served a mission to West Virginia.
Holland was a devoted family man. He has a large posterity including five children and 30 grandchildren. Holland loved watching his grandchildren play together at Spirit Lake and was their biggest fan at sporting events and activities. An optimistic and generous man by nature, Holland imparted great love and charity, clever wit and steadfast faith. He will be remembered with great admiration by all who knew him. Holland showed strength and courage through much physical pain and suffering. Holland will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind, however, theirs is a truly great love story. We celebrate lives well lived and the joyful reunion of true sweethearts. Together forever, Holland and Carolyn embrace the next life hand in hand.
Holland is predeceased by his beloved spouse, Carolyn Yeates and his sister Carol (Jim) Barnes. He is survived by siblings, Rosemary (Weston) Ogzewalla, John (Joan) Ford, Margaret (Keith) Wilson, Hilda (Don) Burnham, Rodney (Marcia) Ford, and Blaine (Linda) Ford; children, Stephen (Trina) Ford, Christine (Jason) Blazzard, Elizabeth (Mark) Stratford, Marianne (Mark) Kartchner, and Sarah (Sean) Demars; as well as 30 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
