Byron Lynn Schulz, 67

“ The ones I didn’t get. The ones I missed. Tell their families I’m sorry I didn’t get them all.”

Byron Lynn Schulz, 67 of Post Falls, Idaho passed away peacefully on November 26th, 2017 at Kootenai Health, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on June 22nd, 1950, to Roman C Schulz and Beatrice F Odne-Schulz at Providence Hospital in Wallace, Idaho.

Byron spent his childhood growing up in Wardner, Idaho and graduated from Kellogg High School. Shortly after graduating he joined the Army reserves and married Sharon Geigle on Oct. 4th, 1969 in Osburn, Idaho. They later parted ways in December 1987. Together they had three daughters.

Byron worked various jobs throughout his teenage years and in 1969 he started at the Sunshine Mine. Tragically on May 2nd, 1972 his life along with hundreds of others was forever changed from the Sunshine Mine fire. He saved over 40 men on that fateful day, however that wasn’t good enough for him. In the years that followed he found his passion in the woods as a logger where he was able to find some peace, comfort, and solitude that only nature could offer. Sadly, Byron never really found true peace after the tragic event, until God called him home last Sunday. We hope and pray that he can now find the kind of peace and contentment that he yearned for, but had unfortunately eluded him all these years.

Byron had numerous friends whom he cherished and enjoyed spending time with while sharing some of his favorite pastimes such as cutting wood, camping, fishing and of course drinking beer!  As years passed, he found enjoyment in watching football, listening to Roy Orbison or Johnny Cash and watching the stock market, all from the comfort of his chair.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister Sonjia.

Byron is survived by his three daughters; Annette Durbin (Jason Black), Sharlene (Jason) White, Heather Goodner; seven grandchildren, Kayla Johnson, Sydnee White, Chelsea White, Tyson Durbin, Blaine Goodner, Brodie Goodner, Asher Goodner; eight great-grandchildren, Braxton, Emree, Kinsley, Emma, Kyler, Karsyn, Gabriel, Teagan; three brothers, Bernard (Mary Ellen) Schulz, Burel Schulz, Ronald Schulz.

Per Byron's request there will be no memorial services held. He did however request that you have a cold one for him! His family will gather this summer at one of Byron's favorite spots…in the woods.
