Berta Louise Baker, 85, of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho passed away July 21, 2014 at Creekside Assisted Living in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Berta was born May 22, 1929 in San Fernando, California to Robert and Louise (Borgeson) McKay.
As a child Berta moved to Florida with her family where she attended and graduated from high school in 1947. There she met Howard Lee Baker and they were later married July 15, 1947 in Miami, Florida. They were married 47 years when Howard passed away in 1994.
Berta traveled with her husband who was in the United States Navy living in Florida, and Texas. She worked as medical office manager in California until she retired in 1993, and moved to North Idaho to be close to her family.
Berta loved to volunteer at Kootenai Medical Center. She was a private pilot, and was active in the 99er’s flying women’s club in Corpus Christi, Texas. Berta loved cooking and making wreaths, arranging flowers, was a big animal lover, and made the best mac and cheese in town.
She is survived by three children April (Albert) Fitzpatrick of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Robert (Sue) Baker of Vacaville, California, and Suzi (Ray) Koep of Post Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one daughter Linda Baker.
Upon her request no services will be held. The family suggests that memorials may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association 912 Killian Hill Road, S.W. Lilburn, GA 30047.
