Archalus James Maker

Archalus James Maker 91 Archalus, (Art) James Maker 91 of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho passed peacefully at home on August 30th, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Maker, Son, Mike Maker and daughter in law Jackie Maker. Art grew up the youngest of seven siblings in Weaverville California. Art was a registered member of the Wintu Native American Tribe out of Northern California. Art married the love of his life Dorothy Marie Potts Nov. 27th, 1955. They would have happily celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this coming November. Art had a very close and loving relationship with his only child, his son, Mike Maker. Art never missed supporting Mike with home projects, fishing, landscaping or cheering as Mike played baseball and later on as he played softball as an adult. Teammates often commented on Art & Mike’s close relationship. Art was the best Dad ever. Art was also a cheerleader to his daughter in law Jackie. He worked on many wood projects with her, taught her how to Smoke Salmon, garden and fishing. They deeply loved each other. Art served in the Navy during the Korean War and was on the USS Ashtabula where he narrowly escaped an explosion that almost took his life. Art was very proud of his service history but was very private about it. Art had training and certifications in HVAC repair and worked as a redwood logger. In the last 20 years of his career he maintained machines and facilities for The Barlow Company in Sebastopol, California. Art lived in California for 67 years before moving to North Idaho in 1997. Art was an avid outdoorsman, chef, master woodworker, gardener and could fix anything you put in front of him. He & Dorothy have explored all over Idaho and loved to introduce others to special fishing holes they discovered. A perfect day to them was one with no agenda except getting in the car and exploring our beautiful area. Art was part of the tight knit group of men & women who had coffee at Super 1 in CDA each morning for the past 25 years.. He built friendships very easily and was naturally curious about the people in his life and deeply cared for his many friendships. Art was generous & artistic and loved sharing handmade gifts and his garden harvest with family and friends. Many beautiful redwood tables & clocks were shared from his years of collecting wood pieces during his time working as a redwood logger. Art dearly loved his beloved puppy dogs over the years and most recently his little pal ‘Lucy’. Lucy the pug gave him much love and comfort over the past years as he navigated his declining health. Art had a deep love for God and shared that he felt completely ready for his promotion to heaven. Art Is survived by Dorothy (wife), Mike Maker (Son), Jackie Maker (daughter in law) of CDA, Gene Pruitt (brother-in law) Ruth Pruitt (Sister-in-law) Texas, Don Potts (Brother-in-law) Texas, Rick & Peggy-Sue Rico (cousin) Oklahoma, Alice Walther (Niece) Oregon, Marnie Poindexter, (Niece) Rohnert Park, CA. and many other beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and dearly loved friends. Heartfelt thanks for the incredible care Art received from Hospice of North Idaho, his faithful and committed family and The Key Home Health. A special thanks to Wanda & Charity for their tender loving care of Art in his final months.
