Anna Marie Van Valkinburgh

Annie crossed over to be with her husband Bill on 2/22/2022. Anna Marie Moser was born on December 8th, 1939 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and spent her childhood in Coeur d’Alene. Annie married William F. (Bill) Van Valkinburgh on September 6th, 1955 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Their travels took them to Rupert and St. Maries, Idaho, Fairbanks and Eagle River, Alaska, then finally back home to Coeur d’Alene/Dalton Gardens. Annie’s 1967 introduction to Alaska was a rough one. Within the first year she lost the baby she was carrying, had her car stolen, had her house broken into, lost her sister Caroline, and finally had most of her belongings underwater in the Chena River flood of 1967. With that adventure behind her, Annie and the family moved to Eagle River, Alaska where they had many good years. There she raised her family and worked many years at Quality Cleaners. While in Alaska, she started making Alaska related clothing and crafts. She made parkas with fur ruffs for all of her children, and some friends and family. She also made baby booties and mukluks out of Alaskan furs, such as seal, black bear, wolf and rabbit. She was a very good seamstress and made some of her children’s clothes too. In 1978 the family was transferred back to Coeur d’Alene, and finally settled in Dalton Gardens. Annie worked at Day’s Inn, Hagadone Corporation, and the Husky Truck Stop on Seltice Way in Post Falls. She began working at St. Vincent DePaul in Coeur d’Alene, in the early 80’s, and worked there until her retirement. In the 80’s she decided that she needed some excitement in her life and tried her hand at demolition derby racing at the Stateline Speedway. She had her husband and her brothers as her pit crew, and at least once, coerced her poor husband, Bill (the original “Mr Safety”) to be in the car with her. He was mildly damaged, but they both had fun. Some of Annie’s favorite things were Christmas, where she always went all out, flower gardening and her fish pond. In her younger years she enjoyed many kinds of crafts and passed those interests to many of her children. Annie was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, Alfred and Ottilia Moser, and her sister Caroline Moser, sisters and brothers-in-law Gloria (Moser) and Jim House, Shirley (Moser) and Allen West, Diane (Moser) and Dick Johnson, brother and sister-in-law James and Charlene Moser, brother and sister-in-laws Gerald and Juanita Van Valkinburgh, Stan and June Van Valkinburgh, father and mother-in-law Leslie and Mildred Van Valkinburgh, and granddaughter Angel Lena Groll. Annie is survived by her children Bill and Kim Van Valkinburgh, Jerri and Wally Groll, Michelle Millard, Cathy and Rod Herrin, and Lucy and Peter Fountain, her brothers Mike (Lorene) Moser and Mark (Claire) Moser, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Tina, Danial, Brian, Dustin, Joshua, Heather, Chris, Jennifer, Hannah, Michael, Matthew, Charles and Gene’e. She has 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren (to date).
